A Crazy Way to get Steps! Laundry Walking

Ok, ok, I know, this is going to sound crazy.

There are some days, when it is ROUGH to get my steps in for the day.

So, I’ve had to become creative in finding ways to get extra steps throughout the day.

One of those “creative” ways, is what I like to call Laundry walking. I’ve done this for the last five years, in three different houses.

I have my load of laundry done in the dryer, and I take ONE PIECE at a time and go put it away. I know, I told you it was going to sound crazy. And who’s got time for that?

Well, I guess I do, just to get those steps in!

I did a test the other night with two different loads of laundry, one a load of clothes and one a load of towels.

Here’s how they measured up in steps:

  • Clothes – the closet and dresser are all the way at the opposite end of the house from where the laundry room is, so round trip, each piece of clothing got me an average of 100 steps. Not too shabby! My Clothes Load generated a grand total of 1,750 steps! That was very helpful!
  • Towels – the shelves for towels were closer than my closet, so round trip for one towel got me around 75 steps. The Towels Load added up to 1,000 steps! Again, extra steps are ALWAYS helpful when you are trying to hit your goal for the day.

All in all, a successful, creative way to get my steps in, and for the who’s got time for that question…

Each load took just under 15 minutes. Just about the same amount of time that I would have spent putting them away from the bag or basket.

The nice thing was as I was walking, I either folded the towel, folded the clothing item, or got the clothing item all read to just throw on the hanger in the closet.

So there you have it, I got almost 3,000 steps, just by doing my Laundry Walking!

What is your most creative way to get those extra steps during the day??

    1. Thank you Trudy! It’s tricky to get steps when it’s 110 degrees outside, I’ve got to be creative!

  1. The W/D is only about 6 steps from where I need to put stuff – convenient for doing laundry, not so much for Laundry Walking or watching TV.

    1. You could put the laundry in a basket and put it a further distance from your closet or dresser and do laundry walking that way!
